    December 23

    22 Dec 06 - 10.0 miles

Gold's Gym.  10.0 miles on the elliptical, and a 10 mile cool down on the bike.  This is the first time I've done 10 miles and I wanted to see how my body would react.  The top of my right foot started giving me some grief from 5-7 miles, but it smoothed out.  Total time was 2:10.  Nice workout.  Movie:  'The Tuxedo'

    20 Dec 06 - 3.8 miles

    Gold's Gym. Elliptical.  Movie: RV

Good workout even though I had the machine on the wrong setting.  Pretty funny movie too.  It seems that the older I get, the more I appreciate humor about fathers coping with family issues (comedic movies anyway). :-)

    Week 7 Recap (4.2 miles / -2.8 lbs)

    Week 7 Workout Recap

    Dates:  Dec 10 - Dec 16 2006
    Number of workout days:  1
    Total distance:  4.2 miles / 6.8 km

    Starting weight:  256.8 lbs. / 116.48 kg
    Ending weight:  254.0 lbs. / 115.21 kg

    Weight loss:  -2.8 lbs / 1.27 kg

    BMI:  33.28

Notes:  Yet another week of working to much and not working out at the gym enough.  But progress was made.  Trying to do better in week 8.
    December 13

    13 Dec 06 - 4.2 miles

Gold's Gym. Elliptical.  Movie: Diary of an Angry Black Woman

THAT was a different kind of movie.

    Week 6 Recap (6.8 miles / -0.2 lbs)

    Week 6 Workout Recap

    Dates:  Dec 3 - Dec 9 2006
    Number of workout days:  2
    Total distance:  6.8 miles / 10.9 km

    Starting weight:  257.0 lbs. / 116.57 kg
    Ending weight:  256.8 lbs. / 116.48 kg

    Weight loss:  -0.2 lbs / 0.09 kg

    BMI:  33.65

    Notes:
Numbers don't lie. One workout too few + one pizza too many = minor weight loss.  I have 3 weeks left to lose 6.8 lbs and stay on target.  That's only 2.3 lbs per week, and my average weight loss so far has been 2.2 lbs. per week.  So I just need to push a bit harder to stay on track this month.
    December 04

    04 Dec 06 - 4.3 miles

Gold's Gym.  Movie was 'Poseidon'.  I don't know what it is with these dark movies at the gym, but at least this one got to the action part pretty quickly.  It seems odd to me that the helicopters came to rescue them about 30 seconds after the flare went up, but that's just me.

Anyway, good workout today.  I bumped the run up to 5mph and the distance to 4.3 to make sure my monthly average hits 3.3 miles per workout this month. (Yesterday's road work was 2.5 walking the dog).
    December 03

    03 Dec 06 - 2.5 miles

Took Holly for a walk around the neighborhood early on Sunday morning.  Lauren went too. There was little traffic and it was nice and cold out.  Enjoyable workout! :-)

    Week 5 Recap (3.2 miles / -4.0 lbs)

    Week 5 Workout Recap

    Dates:  Nov 19 - Nov 25 2006
    Number of workout days:  1
    Total distance:  3.2 miles / 5.2 km

    Starting weight:  261.0 lbs. / 118.39 kg
    Ending weight:  257.0 lbs. / 116.57 kg

    Weight loss:  -4.0 lbs / 1.81 kg

    Notes:
I had a bad sinus & ear infection that started Tuesday night and was unable to make it to the gym the rest of the week, so I'm sure that some of the weight loss is from being sick.  We'll see how that changes in week 6.

    Month 6               5.1          19                          94.6

    TRACKING
I wrote an Excel spreadsheet to track my workout information and stats.  If I stick to my workout and dietary goals, the spreadsheet shows that my final weight after 26 weeks (6 months) will be somewhere between 223.4 – 202.6 (46.8 – 67.6 lbs. lost, respectively).  At my current rate I’m on target for 210.4 lbs, but it’s way too early to be sure where I’ll end up.  A lot can happen in 5 months.

    GOALS
My goal is to add 10% to my workout distance each month and to add 10% to the number of workouts per month.  This helps increase the intensity and distance of my workouts as my weight decreases.  I’d like to be around 5 miles per day 4-5 days per week before the race.

    BMI
Regarding the BMI (Body Mass Indicator), I’ve never been a fan of the BMI because according to it I should weigh no more than 194, and that’s about what I weighed when I got married, and at almost 6'2" that's way too skinny.  Plus the BMI doesn’t differentiate muscle weight from fat.  It just looks at your weight and your height.  At any rate, I found out that when I started this a month ago at 270.2 lbs, I was in the ‘obese’ category on the BMI, which I knew.  But what I didn’t know was that I was only 3 lbs. away from being ‘severely obese’.  That was pretty shocking!

    FEELINGS
I already feel better since I no longer get winded walking up the stairs to the 2nd floor.  And since I cut out almost all fast food and sodas, that too has made a huge difference in how I feel.  I still eat Subway for lunch because it’s easy, inexpensive (if you get the $2.79 daily special) and it’s fast.  With the money I’ve saved on fast food I’ve been able to buy a new hard drive for my laptop PC.  In December I’m saving from some new running shoes.

    MOTIVATION
Having a routine of working out has really helped me physically and emotionally.  When I miss a day at the gym I really feel a difference in my stress level and energy.  Plus my MP3 player helps pass the time and lets me take music, podcasts, books, and Watchtower & Awake MP3s.  Always gives me something to look forward to for each workout. :-)

    November 27

    27 Nov 06 - 3.2 miles

    Gold's Gym -3.2 miles
    Movie:  War of the Worlds.
That's a pretty dark movie for 6:30 AM in the morning, but it's better than sleeping in. :-)

    Week 4 Recap (3.4 miles / -3.4 lbs)

    Week 4 Workout Recap

    Dates:  Nov 19 - Nov 25 2006
    Number of workout days:  1
    Total distance:  3.4 miles / 5.5 km

    Starting weight:  264.4 lbs. / 119.93 kg
    Ending weight:  261.0 lbs. / 118.39 kg

    Weight loss:  -3.4 lbs / 1.54 kg

    Notes:
Week 4 was very hectic and I was only able to make it to the gym one day instead of the usual 3 days.  But I've only got 1 pound & 4 days to go before I reach my goal of losing 10 lbs. (4.5 kg) in the first month.
    November 22

    22 Nov 06 - 3.4 miles

I was lazy and skipped the gym on Monday, which made showing up this morning just that much harder to get out of bed on a cold day.  But I made it. :-)
    Movie:  X-Men 3
    November 20

    Week 3 Recap (9.30 miles / +5.8 lbs)

Last week was the most I've run so far, but my weight went the wrong way.  My goal is to lose 10 pounds per month (for 6 months), so I've only got to lose a few more pounds this month to hit my target.  I'm sure I'll make it!
    November 17

    17 Nov 06 - 3.2 miles

Gold's Gym.  Movie playing: 'The Sentinel'.  I got to see a bit more of the movie this time.  Still didn't see the ending, but at least I know whodunnit now.
    November 16

    15 Nov 06 - 2.9 miles

Gold's Gym. Movie: 'Take the Lead'.  Initially I wasn't thrilled about the idea of a movie where Antonio teaches ballroom dancing to innercity problem teens, but the movie actually wasn't bad.  :-)
    November 13

    13 Nov 06 - 3.2 miles

    Gold's Gym. Movie was "Benchwarmers"

    November 08

    08 Nov 06 - 3.1 miles

Gold's Gym.  They had the movie 'The Sentinel' playing, but I didn't get to see the end of it.  Hopefully it'll be on again tomorrow and I can catch the ending.
